The Society at the Family History Event 6th May, 2017

On May 6th, the Society was invited once again to take part  in the annual Family History Event  at the Waterfront Museum.  This enables us to showcase the Society’s activities to a wider audience.

20th Anniversary Dinner at the Towers Hotel 7th March

The Society was very pleased that the Lord Lieutenant Byron Davies and his wife Hilary were able to accept our invitation to join us at the Towers Hotel for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Society’s founding.  We were given a very interesting and informative talk on the Lord Lieutenant’s personal history and his role as Lord Lieutenant.

Vandalism of Society memorial trees in Skewen Park

It is with great sadness the Society has to report that one of the WW1 memorial trees that was planted earlier this year has been vandalised.  Mr. Chris Richards and his team will do their best to save the tree but he is not hopeful of success.

If anyone has any information about the perpetrators of the vandalism, please get in touch with the Society, Mr. Richards at the park or the local police.

The split in the main trunk of the tree can be seen clearly.

Presentation of WW1 Book to local schools

The Society has presented a copy of its book “Skewen & District: Our Village in WW1 The Diary of a Welsh Village” to two  local schools.  On Friday, 25th November a copy was presented to Crymlyn Primary School, and on Tuesday, 29th November to Coedffranc Primary School.

The Society hopes to present a copy to Abbey Primary soon.
