Vandalism of Society memorial trees in Skewen Park

It is with great sadness the Society has to report that one of the WW1 memorial trees that was planted earlier this year has been vandalised.  Mr. Chris Richards and his team will do their best to save the tree but he is not hopeful of success.

If anyone has any information about the perpetrators of the vandalism, please get in touch with the Society, Mr. Richards at the park or the local police.

The split in the main trunk of the tree can be seen clearly.

Presentation of WW1 Book to local schools

The Society has presented a copy of its book “Skewen & District: Our Village in WW1 The Diary of a Welsh Village” to two  local schools.  On Friday, 25th November a copy was presented to Crymlyn Primary School, and on Tuesday, 29th November to Coedffranc Primary School.

The Society hopes to present a copy to Abbey Primary soon.

Clearing House?

If you know of anyone who is down sizing, or helping to clear out a house, please consider donating any photographs you find, and do not want to keep, to the Society  – and we mean ANY photographs.  If you can name the  people in any photographs you donate, or give an indication of date taken,  that would be of great help.

It is surprising what gems often end up in a skip when they are of great value to an historical society, so please think of us at such a time.

We would  also scan and return photographs you might want to keep.
